Preparing For Workplace Emergencies

Emergencies happen every day all over the world and we all hope that we are never the victim of an emergency. Business owners must plan for emergencies and how to keep their employees safe in the event of one. When preparing it is smart to think worst case scenario and as the saying goes “plan for the worst and hope for the best”.
Does your place of employment have a policy for how to handle each type of disaster that could occur? Do you know how to respond in the event of a disaster? Preparedness saves lives. Find out if your workplace has any policies and procedures for emergencies.
Preparedness plans should include an evacuation policy and procedure, a list of people who need to be contacted in the event of an emergency (shareholders, board members, owners, etc.), procedures to follow to shut down equipment, ways to alert employees of emergencies, a way to account for personnel after an emergency, and more. Each plan would look different from the next based on the type of business and what has happened.
In some cases, it may be necessary to shut off water or power to the workplace. There needs to be someone(s) who is designated to do so and knows where these controls are.
SERVPRO of Bowling Green/West Lucas Co. can help with a part of this planning. We can provide a free service called an Emergency Ready Profile (ERP) that comes with an app that can be downloaded and the file shared with any employee you choose. We can cover who to contact for power, who to contact for water and where the shut off locations are for these items. We are always here to help 24/7/365.
